Built to complete the final part of a university degree course. To construct and photograph a unique bike. For a giggle, could I do it for just over a grand while being under the UCI racing bike limit of 6.8 kilograms? The frame and forks arrived with a flawless finish (my mate picked up the box and thought there was nothing in it! - that's light). The bike built easily using Planet X ultra light brakes, seat clamp, spacers, skewers and grips. Race parts like Dura Ace bottom bracket and cassette were used and the gears were XT 10 speed straight through. All the carefully picked parts were weighed on digital scales. Rather than a Frankenstein the bike came out beautiful with compliments from the outset. The verdict was mission accomplished as it helped be get by BA Honours degree in Photography from Birmingham University and at 6.7 kgs it was lighter than any race bike on the Tour De France startline which was hilarious! The bike is no plaything as it has to carry my camera gear to field trips. Acceleration is phenomenal and I can lift it with one finger. People have stopped to photograph it and ask me questions. Its as light as a 10 grand Pinarello, for me rides better and probably gets more attention. I will build another I reckon as it was fun to do.
